SHDA Highland Dance Season
The SHDA highland dance season runs from September to May and offers dancers multiple opportunities to perform and compete. We proudly run three major competitions throughout the year.
Our Events
The SHDA is proud to host a variety of local competitions and workshops through the dance season! These events offer dancers of all ages and skill levels a supportive stage to perform, grow, and showcase their hard work.
Everyone is welcome! You do not need to be an SHDA member or belong to a specific dance school to participate in our open competitions and events. We love seeing new and visiting dancers join our highland family on the stage!
Our Workshops
To help dancers continuously refine their technique and build their confidence the SHDA hosts workshops on all competition weekends. Held the Sunday directly following our November, January, and April competitions, these sessions offer dancers from primary through premier the chance to learn directly from guys RSOBHD judges and guest instructors. Registration for the workshops an be done through the corresponding competition entry form.
Community Events
Sharing our love of highland dance with the Saskatoon and area community is one of the highlights of our season. Throughout the year, you can find SHDA member dancers performing at a variety of local festivals, community celebrations, or requested events.
These “dance outs” offer our dancers a fun, low-pressure state to perform alongside friends and showcase their heritage. This provides dancers valuable stage and performance experience outside of competitions. Dance out participation is open to all SHDA full and recreational members. Full details and sign up for upcoming community performances can be found on our Facebook page.
